First, I have to mention that I often mishear "VFW" as "DFW" -- too many years in the Dallas-Ft Worth area for me!
Second -- yesterday evening we were sitting outside enjoying the cool breeze before planning to go into the rig and turn on the generator and air conditioner, when a fellow drove up right next to us. He let us know that a group of corn hole players were going to be descending onto the parking lot in the next few minutes. "No problem!" we told him. We moved the Jeep so they could have access to a straight line of parking spaces for them to set up their goals.
They were set up right in front of Gracie |
You can see some of the other RVs that are parked across the lot from us - they are stored there (no one is staying in those). |
What was kind of interesting was that about half (maybe more) of the fellows playing were deaf. The guy who arrived first told Carl that this was the new start of a DuPage/Kane County team. They hope to practice and improve and ultimately play in tournaments around the area, but he admitted that the other teams are "really good" so this group needs practice. They practiced well past dusk and there were still folks around talking at 11pm. We had held off on turning on the generator (and air conditioner) because we didn't want to create the heat and noise from the front of the rig and disturb them... so we did not end up getting the air conditioner turned on at all! It was pretty warm and sticky, but we survived (the harder part was that many of them were smokers, and having our door and windows open to get air in and having someone smoking right outside was not great).
