On Monday, we headed out of Des Moines on our way to Illinois...
We stopped to get fuel at the "World's Largest Truck Stop", Iowa 80, and could not resist going in to visit and see all there was to see!
There was a truck inside the building just as we came in the door...
... with a neat mural on it...
... from the Statue of Liberty in NYC on the side of the sleeper cab...
... to the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco at the back of the trailer!
World's largest Pac-Man game
Iowa 80 mural -- this was in the food court area.
Coming back through the back part of the store -- the truck with the mural is along the back wall.

One of these things does not match (Gracie is about 4th from the left end).

They have RV parking separately, but the spaces are not long enough for Gracie with the Jeep attached, so we went ahead and parked with the trucks. There are 900 parking spaces for trucks!
We were planning to stay at one of the Kane County campgrounds that we stayed at last summer, but it would be a 30-45 minute drive in to Carl's Mom's facility and since we're figuring we may be doing it for several days, we looked for something closer. It turned out that there was a Harvest Host at a VFW post in Wheaton and, while Harvest Hosts are usually just for one night, the VFW specifically indicated that they were willing for folks to stay longer with a contribution to the post. So... we are within 5 minutes, just a couple of miles away from where Carl's Mom is... we are hoping that we'll be able to figure out all the things that need to get accomplished and get them completed without too much difficulty - but it will be nice to be nearby while we're working on it.
